Sete de Setembro: On September 7, 1822, Prince Pedro, son of Portugal’s king, stood by the Ipiranga river and cried “By my blood , by my honor, and by my God: I will make Brasil free!” and tore the Portuguese symbol from his uniform. Their motto would be “Independência ou Morte” meaning “Independence or Death.” Dom Pedro I became the first Emperor of Brasil and he ruled Brasil for 9 years He drove out the Portuguese soldiers from Brasil. On September 7, 1822, Brasil was free! Up to this date the motive for founding the colony of Brasil is still recognized. Portugal founded them for their raw materials and today, their raw materials is what keeps them running. On this day, thousands of Brasilians gather in the road celebrating with banners, singing Hino Nacional do Brasil, spending time with families and being proud of their country. Adoro meu país!
